Meeting Minutes of October 2017

ATTENDEES: Present were KJ Kline, Lou Brackett, James Solace,Jay Hoefling, Tommy Derryberry, Billy Johnson, Dan O'Neill, and Steve Wolford.

 

EXCUSED; Josh Hogstad, Dale Yeckley.

GUESTS: Ture Nycum, Fruita Director of Parks and Recreation, Renae Byrd McMinn, Wayne Rethmel

 

Post Commander KJ Kline called the brief meeting to order at 9:00am at the Fruita Civic Center, Fruita, CO.  The colors were in position and the Cmdr. asked those present to render an appropriate hand salute.  All Legionnaires were asked to uncover, then the opening prayer was offered by the Post Service Officer.  The Pledge of Allegiance was presented by the Post Commander. The Preamble was read by the Post Finance Officer and the POW/MIA cover was posted by our Post Webmaster.  Commander declare The American Legion Post 2006, Department of Colorado convened.

 

The Committee reports of membership; finance; Service Officer Reports were gived and approved.

 

OLD BUSINESS: Post fund raising initiatives were discussed (i.e. Herbergers).

 

NEW BUSINESS: Included: 1) Featured speaker and guest Mr. Ture Nycum gave an excellent presentation of a "Community That Cares" initiative by the City of Fruita in support of the youth and families of Fruita, CO; 2) The introduction of three local veterans who have requested financial assistance by way of a scholarship to use the Fruita Community Center facilities for theapy.  In particular, the indoor swimming pool was requested for health and medical reasons; 3) The installation of new Post Adjutant Steve Wolford took place towards the end of the meeting.  He was nominated, and seconded, and motion approved by all Legion members present.  Curtis Gray was given a vote of thanks and appreciation for his service as Post Adjutant for the past four years and was released as Post Adjutant.

 

No other business being brought before the members present, the Post Comdr. closed the meeting at 10:560a.m.  Light refreshments were served after the meeting.

 

The next Fruita Post 2006 meeting will be held on Saturday, 16, 2017 at 9:00am at Judy's Restaurant in  Fruita, CO.  This is the annual Christmas meeting.  Family and friends are invited.
